Elephant Family is a small but hugely ambitious charity, working to save the Asian elephant from extinction and abuse. Their vision is a world in which the Asian elephant is no longer an endangered species and is able to live unthreatened within its own habitat. We were commissioned in early 2010 to build a new website for the charity to be launched in time for Elephant Parade London 2010 in May.
Following a rebranding exercise, we were brought on board to:
- Work with the Elephant Family team to determine the requirements for the website and help them develop the information architecture
- Contribute to a collaborative design process to develop the look and feel for the website
- Select the appropriate technology for the website build
- Implement the chosen Content Management System (CMS)
The technical and editorial requirements made the content management system "ExpressionEngine" an ideal fit for Elephant Family. ExpressionEngine's modular nature allowed us to tailor the editor experience to fit Elephant Family's needs, which we achieved by carefully selecting a suite of add-ons from the hundreds available, to plug into the basic system. For example, using the modules 'Playa' and 'Structure' we were able create an instinctive editorial interface that allowed Elephant Family to easily publish their different types of content and simply create relationships between them.
ExpressionEngine's flexible and powerful templating system allows for seamless integration of third party content from their Flickr account and YouTube Channel and, importantly, gives the Elephant Family team the freedom to publish striking image led content pages throughout the site.
Following some great work from the Elephant Family team to populate the site with content and imagery, we managed to get the site live in time for the launch of Elephant Parade. Just.
