Family vie is a brand new online community targeted specifically at parents; allowing them to filter, share and promote relevant online content regarding all things 'parenthood' - from pregnancy to higher school education and everything in-between.
As a parent, questions can arise on a daily basis and the web has become an accessible resource to help answer those questions but there's SO MUCH OF IT! It's easy to feel overwhelmed by the sheer volume of content… and it's more than understandable to sometimes question the trustworthiness of the source.
The stories linked from family vie are submitted by parents and can be voted on by members of the site. This promotes the most popular 'finds' and gives the audience a credible stream of useful and relevant information.
We started the project by working with family vie to conduct a thorough review of the requirements outlined in their project brief and comparing this with the various platforms available to find the best-fit technology for their specific needs.
This process of challenging the implied functionality allowed us to develop a detailed specification for the site and to identify the newly released WordPress 3 as our platform of choice.
Incorporating the BuddyPress plug-in we were able to deliver the specific technical elements of the site. The supporting BP templates allowed us to push ahead with the functional build in parallel with the creative design process and this reduced the overall development schedule. In fact, the site was launched just 33 days after WordPress 3.0 was released.
